5 Mind Blowing Anime You Should be Watching Now!

Mind blowing anime – that’s a thing of the past, right? For a lot of us, we think of anime as Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Voltes 5 or even Naruto. Fun, outlandish, and colorful are the adjectives we associate to this brand of Japanese animation that has gained massive popularity worldwide.

The biggest mistake we can make, however, is to assume that they are made for kids. While some indeed are targeted towards younger audiences, mature content targeted towards adults also dominate the industry.

Anime now feature some of the deepest and most complicated stories out there rivaling even Christopher Nolan’s movies.

If you are a junkie for anime that will blow your mind and in search for next stunning thing to feast your eyes on then you should definitely check out some of these titles.

Here are 5 mind blowing anime that will not only leave you not only impressed but also thoroughly entertained.

5. Erased (Boku dake ga Inai Machi)

When his mother is murdered by an unknown assailant, Satoru’s ability suddenly sends him back eighteen years to when he was still in elementary school, giving him the opportunity to prevent a kidnapping incident that took the lives of three of his childhood friends, two classmates and one young girl studying at a school nearby

4. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion is an apocalyptic anime, set in a futuristic Tokyo fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm. The story centers on Shinji, a teenage boy who is recruited by his father into the shadowy organization Nerv to pilot a giant bio-machine mecha called Evangelion in combat against monstrous beings known as Angels.

Dark, complicated to the point of confusing, and eerily psychological, this is so mind blowing that it leaves other mecha anime like Gundam in the dust.

3. Tatami Galaxy (Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei)

Overview:
The story of The Tatami Galaxy follows an unnamed third year university student in Kyoto, Japan and what he views as his wasted time in a particular club (also called “circle”) at his university. He meets Ozu, another student, whose encouragement sets him on a mission of dubious morality.

2. Steins;Gate

The story follows the group as they discover and develop technology that gives them the means to change the past.

Steins;Gate takes Okabe through the depths of scientific theory and practicality. Forced across the diverging threads of past and present, Okabe must shoulder the burdens that come with holding the key to the realm of time. Immensely mind blowing this anime is smart, wildly entertaining, this is a must watch for people who love shows that make you think.

1. From The New World (Shinsekai Yori)

Overview:
Following a sudden outbreak of psychokinesis in 0.1% of the population, a rapid transformation swept the world. The godlike ability to manipulate matter remotely turned many power wielders to violence, inciting a long period of upheaval. Finally, after a chaotic era shaped by the rise and fall of oppressive regimes, the psychic humans were able to achieve a fragile peace by isolating their society, creating a new world bound by complex rules.

In the town of Kamisu 66, 12-year-old Saki Watanabe has just awakened to her powers and is relieved to rejoin her friends—the mischievous Satoru Asahina, the shy Mamoru Itou, the cheerful Maria Akizuki, and Shun Aonuma, a mysterious boy whom Saki admires—at Sage Academy, a special school for psychics.

However, unease looms as Saki begins to question the fate of those unable to awaken to their powers, and the children begin to get involved with secretive matters such as the rumored Tainted Cats said to abduct children.

Adapted from an Award-Winning Novel, this is one of the best source materials a mind blowing anime has ever worked with. Deeply affecting, with stunning story-telling, and tackling mature issues in the real world from sexuality, censoring, equality, Shinsekai Yori tells the unique coming-of-age story of Saki and her friends as they journey to grow into their roles in the supposed utopia.

Accepting these roles, however, might not come easy when faced with the dark and shocking truths of society, and the impending havoc born from their new world.
